Sophia Rainsford

Sophia is an experienced chartered town planner of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and is an Associate at Smith Jenkins. Sophia graduated from the University of Manchester in 2011 with a Masters of Town and Country Planning (MTCP) achieving a First Class degree.

Sophia’s planning experience has been gained solely in private practice and before joining Smith Jenkins in 2024, Sophia held posts in planning consultancies based in London including Quod.

Sophia has experience in providing planning advice to a range of clients including housebuilders, investment funds and small-scale developers. She has acted as lead consultant on many complex sites for a wide range of planning related projects from the inception of a scheme all the way through to completion and has led multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of major planning applications across the UK.

Sophia prides herself on having a strong understanding of client’s commercial drivers, which enables her to provide advice that optimises the planning position, whilst also minimising risk and timescales.
